Woman hand cleaning the houseYou want a clean home. But you also want a healthy home, too. When it comes to keeping your place spotless, there’s a lot more to consider than dirt and grime. In fact, the Environmental Protection Agency ranks indoor air pollution among the top environmental dangers, which gives you pause for thought. Common cleaning products are responsible for much of this pollution, but switching to green-friendly methods can reduce indoor air pollution, improve your health, and save you money.

Glass Cleaner

  • 2 cups water
  • 1/2 cup vinegar
  • 1/4 cup rubbing alcohol

Combine the ingredients in a spray bottle. Use a soft cloth or paper towel, and be sure to spray the cloth with the cleaning solution before spritzing the window. For a streak-free shine, dry the window with newspapers.

All-Purpose Cleaner

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon dish soap
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar
  • warm water

Combine the baking soda, dish soap and vinegar in an empty spray bottle and swirl them around to lightly mix. Fill the bottle with warm water and gently shake to fully mix the ingredients. Let it rest for a few minutes and you’re ready to go!

DIY Scrub

  • 1/3 cup baking soda
  • warm water

In a small bowl, combine the baking soda and enough water to make a paste (similar to toothpaste consistency). Simply dip a sponge or cleaning brush into the paste to clean a number of household surfaces.

If you have baking soda and vinegar, you can basically clean almost anything. Baking soda can effectively clean, brighten, kill germs, and cut through grease and grime. Vinegar is naturally acidic and can remove dirt and germs both safely and efficiently. If you’re not a big fan of the smell of vinegar, give it a chance. After a little while, the smell dissipates and there won’t be any trace of vinegar in the air.
