Fertilizing Your Lawn is as Easy as 1,2,3

When you think about it, lawns and gardens are very different beasts, but each needs regular maintenance to stay healthy. Fertilizing your lawn, watering and mowing are two important components, but you also need to consider fertilizer. Making the extra effort to fertilize your lawn in an effective way to keep weeds at bay and to keep your lawn healthy and green all summer long.

If you’re new to the process, don’t worry. By following our three-step guide, you’ll master the art of lawn fertilization in no time. Good luck!

Step 1.) Mow and water your lawn.

Before you can apply any fertilizer, you need to adequately prepare your lawn. The best way to do this is to mow and then water. When your grass is short and close to the soil, it can absorb more of the fertilizer’s nutrients. Watering your lawn prepares your soil to accept the fertilizer, allowing for greater and longer-lasting effects.

Step 2.) Select a fertilizer.

When choosing a fertilizer, there are several factors to consider, including the type of soil, the climate and the type of grass you have.

Step 3.) Apply the fertilizer. Fertilizing your lawn

Once you’ve selected a fertilizer that aligns with your needs, it’s time to start applying it. You might think you’ll save time doing so by hand, but it’s far better to invest in a spreader. When applying your fertilizer, do so in straight lines, similar to how you would mow the lawn. Take your time and make sure to read your spreader’s user manual. This will ensure you cover all of your lawn and not just some of it. Fertilizing your lawn will make your lawn much greener and healthy.

Ensure you protect your skin and eyes when fertilizing your lawn, however, as there are some fertilizers that use more than just basic elemental ingredients. Some can have biological material from bovines that could potentially still carry cultures. There are also some fertilizers with hormones that boost growing effects or with pesticides that will get rid of grubs, or some specialized herbicides that will kill weeds like dandelions. So please take care when fertilizing your lawn.
