The long-lasting and far-reaching effects of COVID-19 are more than most of us anticipated. With hundreds of thousands of businesses shutting their doors and millions of Americans dealing with unemployment, Smart Rain has worked to identify ways to give back and help where possible.

Smart Rain has been approved for a green stimulus package of $1 million. Funds are reserved in the form of a grant program to help commercial property owners and managers decrease their operating costs during the global pandemic. Read on for more information about our stimulus grant opportunity and how to apply.

The Purpose of the Grant

One way that commercial property owners and managers are losing money is in their irrigation and lawn care maintenance costs. Almost 50% of the water in the United States is lost due to poor watering systems and methods. Wasted water is likely increasing your water costs for your property.

Stimulus grant funds can be used to update your water system to be more efficient and less wasteful to help save you money on your water utility bill. Our team will come out to perform all the upgrades and get your system into money/water-saving mode so that you can proactively lessen your financial strain during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Water Management System

Smart Rain uses a smart irrigation controller to completely control your entire water system on your property. The smart controller is capable of handling up to 48 zones and allows you to set watering specifications for each zone — meaning that each area will be perfectly watered every time. All functionality is conveniently controlled by your smartphone.

Sensors

Your smart controller has three sensors: flow, moisture, and rain. The flow sensor monitors the amount of water coming out of each valve and will alert you if the flow changes from your settings. The moisture sensor monitors evaporation and precipitation to ensure that your system is only running long enough to maintain optimal soil moisture levels. If it starts to rain before or during your watering cycle, the system automatically turns off so as not to use unnecessary water.

lush lawn and sprinklers graphic for cutting costs

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Summer hot weather is relentless, regardless of the fact that we’re all embroiled in the COVID-19 crisis. While so many businesses are being forced to cut costs any way they can, continuing to water the exterior of a commercial property is essential. A smart water management solution’s ability to efficiently nurture commercial property landscaping takes weight off a property owner’s mind amid the coronavirus pandemic. Here are the ways an automated irrigation system is invaluable in these unprecedented times.

Property owners and managers are tied up addressing pressing concerns.
There’s an impending recession. Tenants are at risk of falling on hard times and new ones must be found to fill vacancies. Premises are eerily quiet as employees work from home and practice social distancing. Needless to say, property owners and managers have a raft of pressing issues to address through the impending recession and beyond. In the meantime, Smart Rain irrigation technology quietly brings a degree of normalcy, working on site when no one else can, remotely controlled via an app. One thing is for sure — water management is one task easily checked off the list.

Does a water management system provide cost savings?
During such a crisis, companies have to make sure their decisions make financial sense. One way to cut costs is to water grounds only when it is necessary. Smart Rain’s tech-based water controllers ensure you’re not throwing money down the literal drain. Since 2012, under its ethos “Add Value” Smart Rain has saved its customers over 1 billion gallons of fresh water, $2 million on water bills, and over 100 thousand work hours. If you are looking for guaranteed ways to tighten your corporate belt amid COVID-19, clever water usage is a proven cost-saver.

Maintained spaces help protect your property value.
Eventually, markets will bounce back and business will return to normal. When that happens, those property owners who continued to use smart water management solutions during the crisis have an advantage over those who find themselves addressing the costly process of reviving dilapidated landscaping. Pristine grounds are a drawcard for prospective tenants and your smart sprinkler system provides an easy win when it comes to maintaining property value.

Amid the chaos, smart irrigation is one area you can control.
So many aspects of life and business are out of our hands at present. A smart sprinkler app is one area you can control. Via a dashboard view from your mobile device, you can take comfort from regular notifications and reporting, as well as real-time flow readings and sensor readings, and adjustments can be made remotely. Smart Rain consultants are still able to provide water audits, consumption reports, and soil analysis to make sure your irrigation system is working optimally. They’ll see that you are using water as frugally as possible, while still protecting your property value.

Spending time outside provides a much-needed escape.
We can’t visit our loved ones in person like we usually do, and so many of life’s regular activities are on hold. People are heading outdoors to escape being cooped up inside.

Smart water management means property managers can continue economically providing welcome respite for tenants. A healing environment of a green lawn, thriving flowers, and shady trees means so much to people right now.
